Is Perception Everything?

On Thursday 25th February, I attended The Talent Leaders Connect #TLCon conference in London with the initial hope of mixing with some influential Talent Leaders to grow our Temp desk. Whilst I did meet some charming individuals, the event was far more useful from a company owner perspective.

One of the messages which was reinforced during the conference was perception and how everything a company does during its recruitment process either enhances or damages their brand.

Having run my own recruitment business in London for the past 13 years, I know how important it is to ensure that everyone has a positive experience when working with Attic from clients and candidates to our own suppliers in order to be perceived in a good light.

Perception is particularly important for clients when working with temporary recruitment consultancies as the client is only partially in control of how their brand is being portrayed. Everything that temp consultancy does to introduce candidates, has an immediate impact on the clients’ brand and as we all know, the world is a very small place.

Temps are usually the ones who are thrown in at the deep-end for a last minute bookings, sometimes ignored by others in the business yet are still expected to perform at the highest levels.

We are now going to be offering temp induction booklets for all our clients on the temp side so we can help manage how our clients’ brand is being perceived in the market place. By spending a little time up front with our clients, we can prepare a document which will help the temps feel at ease, enable them to have the right tools at their disposal and sets out our clients expectations.

At Attic we are in a privileged position to work exclusively with the majority of our temp clients and can therefore control the temp recruitment process and take time to smooth over areas where perhaps the client is short on time. As we grow our temp desk, we need to ensure that standards are kept high across the board.

We understand the immense value placed on branding and perception and through our new initiative we hope to make the process of recruiting a temp even more efficient.

I have a huge amount of confidence in the team at Attic – they have taken a lot of time and trouble to understand the culture and nuances of our business and it shows. I will keep asking them to support us because I know they will deliver a great result – quickly and with style.
